Biography of Lennox Randon

My father Lennox Randon was born in 1959 in Houston, Texas. His family was very poor when he was growing up. When he was less than six months old, his parents divorced, so he was brought up by his mother. He taught himself to read at the age of three, which shocked his mother. He went to first grade for eleven days when the teachers decided to skip him ahead to second grade. He was also taking third grade reading and math.

When he was around thirteen, they moved out of their old neighborhood and moved to a new one, leaving his five cousins behind. They all went to prison, while he stayed out of trouble for the most part, only fighting to defend his younger half-sister. Despite all of the violence, he always got good grades. He worked at McDonald’s to pay for driver’s ed when he was sixteen. Randon got a scholarship to go to Texas Southern University and Rice University for a dual degree engineering scholarship. In high school, though, he had not had physics, calculus or chemistry, so he was not familiar with much of the material that was covered in college. He dropped out of college after a year. He went from job to job for a few years after that until a friend convinced him to try out for the Houston Police Department. In 1980, he graduated from the Houston Police Academy. Eventually he moved to Austin and worked at the Austin Police Department. He worked in that field for about six years until he injured his leg.

Seeing the mistakes people made in their lives, Randon decided to go back to college and get a degree in education so that he could change the lives of people before they chose to make bad decisions. He graduated in December of 1987, and in January of 1988, he started teaching the fifth grade Gifted and Talented Program. Later, he became a technology teacher for students from kindergarten to eighth grade.

Another thing that happened in that year was that he met Lileah Harris, whom he started dating. He decided to go to Yale Law School, but only stayed there briefly because he didn’t want to be away from Lileah. In May of 1992, he married Lileah Harris, and began working as a technical writer and teaching adults how to use software. In October 1997, his daughter, Lark Randon was born and he became a full time father, taking care of her and volunteering at her schools.

Lennox Randon was a precinct captain and county delegate for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. He also introduced his daughter to Michelle and Sasha Obama.

Things he enjoys include tennis, skydiving, snow skiing, making family DVDs, and scuba diving in the Caribbean and the Pacific. He has been scuba diving with stingrays, sharks, barracudas, sea turtles, eels, lobsters, porcupine fish, squid, octopi, flounder, and many other types of marine life. He has also dived the abyss in the Cayman Islands.

He has had two cancer operations and is now doing well. He is currently on chemo but trying to get healthier. He is well enough to go ziplining, rappelling, whitewater rafting, and rock climbing in Alaska.

Overall, Lennox Randon leads an interesting life, with high and low points, but as you have read, he lives a fascinating life nonetheless.
